Services from Hythe this weekend: Sat/Sun 4/5th February 2012

Regular weekend steam hauled services return to Hythe this weekend at the start of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railways 85th year of public service.

Steam trains will depart Hythe for Dungeness at 10.30 and 12.30 with a 30 minute call at New Romney to visit the world famous Model Railway Exhibition. Our cafes and shops will all be open, including the Light Railway Cafe at Dungeness which has Fish and Chips of distinction as its speciality (along with a whole lot more on the menu)

Rover tickets held at 2011 prices are available at £15.00 Adult £7.50 Child (3-16) and Senior Citizens £13.00 (other fares available for Single journeys (good for cyclists and walkers) or shorter returns.

January to March 2012 - Driver Experience Courses now on sale

Our very popular Driver Experience Days for early 2012 are now on sale

Our courses are very hands on and include at least 17 miles at the regulator, a light breakfast, lunch and initial safety briefing and certifcate as well as expert tuition. From the feedback we receive they are great fun too.

Each day costs £260.00 (prices held for 2012) payable on booking and it is possible to accommodate groups of three who wish to do these together on most of these dates at the moment.

Different sections of the line are covered on different dates as below:

Hythe to New Romney

Wednesday 22nd, Thursday 23rd and Monday 27th February

New Romney to Dungeness

Tuesdays 28th February and 6th March

Those who have already undertaken the basic course can join an Advanced Course for £390.00 sharing only with one other person.

Volunteer Working Parties 2012

These very popular ways of joining in the maintenance and improvement work on the railway were traditionally winter affairs but now continue through the summer.

Dates are as follows:

Sat 4th February
Sat/Sun 25/6th February
Sat/Sun 10/11th March
Sat/Sun 24/5th March
Sat/Sun 21/2nd April

If you have attended before and have attended a Safety induction day please just let Steve Godden know so that we can manage the work activities accordingly. Food and drink is provided.

If you have not volunteeered before it is not a problem but we will need to get you up to speed on an induction day. Not too onerous but a good way to become part of the team. This can be arranged by sending an email to
